Compatibility brief
Can Cherry Shrimp live with Nerite Snail?
Often a workable match in a suitable, well-run tank. Still verify behaviour in your setup.
Compatibility score
Profile confidence: medium
Order of checkstank volume vs adults → predation mouth gap → temperament / fin nipping → shared water windows.
20L
Combined minimum footprint reference for these two species: about 20L (larger active fish often want more length).
This is a classic shrimp-tank companion set. Nerites do not breed in freshwater, so they will not overrun a colony, and they generally leave shrimp alone while grazing algae on hardscape. The limits are ordinary ones: stable parameters, enough biofilm or supplemental food for both, and lids because nerites wander. It is workable without promising a maintenance-free tank.
Assessment details
Known compatible pairing
Classic shrimp tank companion. Nerites do not breed in freshwater so the populations stay independent, and neither species threatens the other.

- •Keep both in a mature planted or hardscape tank, feed a little surplus for the shrimp, and check that the nerite is still eating if the glass goes too clean.
- •Cherry Shrimp should be kept in a group of at least 10 for best health and behaviour.

Check each species’ mates list, size the glass, then verify the full stock in the builder. Methodology explains how verdicts are produced.
Individual fish vary in personality. Fishori uses conservative hobby rules. Observe any new introduction closely, feed thoughtfully, and keep a quarantine or backup plan. This is not veterinary advice.
Profile data confidence: medium. Typical care sources — real tanks still vary.
